Segment Data

Segment data is one of the most powerful tools for analysis because it breaks down a company's revenue into its different business lines or geographical regions. This allows you to look past the headline numbers and understand exactly **what** is driving a company's growth, what its most important products are, and where potential risks might lie.

Example 1: Microsoft (MSFT)

Microsoft has many major business segments. By looking at the segment data, you can see that while Windows and Office ("Productivity and Business Processes") are huge, the real growth engine is their cloud business, "Intelligent Cloud," which includes Azure. Tracking the growth rate of this segment is more important than almost any other metric for understanding Microsoft's future.

Example 2: Amazon (AMZN)

Amazon reports revenue across several key segments. By looking at this data, you can see that while "Online stores" is the largest segment, "AWS" (Amazon Web Services) is a massive and highly profitable business driving much of the company's value.

Like any other metric, you can click on a segment's title to chart its historical performance and track its growth trajectory.
